For enhanced safety, the front seat shoulder belts of the Hyundai Elantra N Line are height-adjustable to accommodate a wide variety of driver and passenger heights. A better fit can prevent injuries and the increased comfort also encourages passengers to buckle up. The BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe doesn’t offer height-adjustable seat belts.

To help make backing out of a parking space safer, the Elantra N Line has standard Rear Cross-Traffic Collision Warning and Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist automatically engages the brakes to help avoid a collision. BMW charges extra for Cross Traffic Warning on the 2 Series Gran Coupe.

Both the Elantra N Line and the 2 Series Gran Coupe have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front and rear side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, front wheel drive, plastic fuel tanks, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras and driver alert monitors.

The Elantra N Line comes with a full 5-year/60,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire car and includes 24-hour roadside assistance. The 2 Series Gran Coupe’s 4-year/50,000-mile basic warranty expires 1 year or 10,000 miles sooner.

Hyundai’s powertrain warranty covers the Elantra N Line 6 years and 50,000 miles longer than BMW covers the 2 Series Gran Coupe. Any repair needed on the engine, transmission, axles, joints or driveshafts is fully covered for 10 years or 100,000 miles. Coverage on the 2 Series Gran Coupe ends after only 4 years or 50,000 miles.

There are over 2 times as many Hyundai dealers as there are BMW dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the Elantra N Line’s warranty.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2024 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Hyundai vehicles are better in initial quality than BMW vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Hyundai third in initial quality, above the industry average. With 44 more problems per 100 vehicles, BMW is ranked 21st, below the industry average.

On the EPA test cycle the Elantra N Line gets better fuel mileage than the M235 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder (28 city/35 hwy vs. 24 city/33 hwy).

To lower fuel costs and make buying fuel easier, the Hyundai Elantra N Line uses regular unleaded gasoline. The M235 requires premium, which can cost on average about 84.9 cents more per gallon.

An eight-speed automatic (SMG) is standard on the Hyundai Elantra N Line, for better acceleration and lower engine speed on the highway. Only a seven-speed automatic is available for the 2 Series Gran Coupe.

For better traction, the Elantra N Line has larger tires than the 2 Series Gran Coupe (235/40R18 vs. 225/45R18).

The Elantra N Line’s tires provide better handling because they have a lower 40 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the 2 Series Gran Coupe’s standard 45 series tires.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the Elantra N Line’s wheelbase is 2 inches longer than on the 2 Series Gran Coupe (107.1 inches vs. 105.1 inches).

The Hyundai Elantra N Line may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 500 to 550 pounds less than the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe.

The Elantra N Line has a much larger trunk than the 2 Series Gran Coupe (14.2 vs. 12 cubic feet).

To shield the driver and front passenger’s vision over a larger portion of the windshield and side windows, the Elantra N Line has standard extendable sun visors. The 2 Series Gran Coupe doesn’t offer extendable visors.

A group of representative automotive journalists from North America selected the Elantra as the 2021 North American Car of the Year. The 2 Series Gran Coupe has never been chosen.

The Hyundai Elantra outsold the BMW 2 Series by almost 9 to one during 2024.
